Texas college visits for my oldest brought me to the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines in Austin, what I found there was a beautiful and relaxing luxury resort with lots of options for special needs families.

Hyatt Regency Lost Pines is a luxury resort with laid-back fun for families.  Located on 405 acres of natural beauty along the Colorado River, it’s just 13 miles from Austin-Bergstrom Airport, and a world away from the everyday.  With golf, hiking trails, river boating, horse-back trail rides, pony rides, rock climbing/zip-lining, seasonal family events, incredible pool and water park, and spa, it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone in the family.  Even teens – my 17 year old didn’t want to leave!

Accessibility

Once I was on the property, what initially struck me was how accessible everything was.  No stairs or changes in elevation, low pile carpeting, lots of wide, flat, paved walkways; no obstacles for wheelchair users.  There are s’mores by the fire at night, the fire pit areas are all accessible.  The property is huge, so if you need a lift to different activities, the Hyatt is happy to provide a golf cart ride.

Special Needs – Sensory Issues

I was struck by the quietness of the property and hotel.  It’s funny how used one can get to the constant noise of everyday life.  Walking outside all I heard were sounds of nature; some birds, a light wind in the trees, and quiet. Perfect for kids with sensory issues or get overwhelmed by sounds like my daughter – and very relaxing for moms like me, who hadn’t realized how noisy life had gotten. I’m not really one to slow down, but I sat in the rustic butterfly garden and just drank in the ambiance.  It felt so good.

In our room, I didn’t hear neighboring guests.  If you need more seclusion, or have a larger group, you can rent the Litton House, a 2,600-square-foot guest cottage.  That should do it!

Texas Hospitality

Guest services truly go above and beyond.  I called them several times during our stay, every time the representative was not only helpful, but really friendly and interested in making our stay comfortable.  They have a list of toiletries that are available upon request for moms like me that suffer from packing ADD.  I forgot my razor *gasp* and one was brought right up to my room, saving my teenager from being completely mortified by my au natural legs.  The guest service representative appreciated my sense of humor, so bonus points for that.

My stay at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines honestly exceeded my expectations.  I knew it would be a nice place to stay, but what I found was a place that I want to return to for a longer family vacation. Oh, and if you visit, be sure to enjoy a Mojito by the fire. Bliss.
